Layers refers to the number of tins in height a cake is, and is not to be mistaken for tiers.

Everyday cakes
These are undecorated cakes perfect for afternoon tea, recommended to give 12-14 traditional triangle portions. These will have a filling and a simple topping of either hand whipped buttercream, crunchy sugar or runny set icing.
